Your first business

Every business story starts in one venue: the noodle bar you inherit in Meridian Market. From there, official copy says you work up to restaurants and nightclubs.

Businesses you can run

Official copy names noodle stands, ramen bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. The trajectory is explicit: start at a stand, end up owning the top venues in the city. It is safe to assume more venue types exist, but those four are the confirmed examples.

The ingredient supply chain

Every business needs ingredients, and there are three confirmed ways to get them:

  1. Buy them at marketplaces.
  2. Grow them yourself, including greenhouse farming.
  3. Fish for them with your boat.

Marketing material mentions neighborhood-based pricing and supply and demand, so the same ingredient can plausibly cost different amounts in different districts. Exact numbers wait for launch.

Curfew and sabotage

The Steam description is blunt: during curfew you can avoid security systems and sabotage competitors, and warns that what happens to them can happen to you. This is the closest thing the game has to a risk layer, and it is entirely against NPC businesses.

Jobs beyond ownership

Reported side work includes interior design jobs for other characters' homes. Whether there are more employment options is unconfirmed; this page will list them as they are revealed.

The menu is the product

The official August post about food is the most detailed piece of system documentation the studio has published, and it tells you what running a venue actually involves. Dishes fall into broad categories: meat dishes, fish and seafood, salads, sandwiches, pizza, soups, desserts, snacks and drinks. To serve any of them you need three things: the recipe, the ingredients, and the right kitchen equipment.

That structure explains why the businesses connect to the rest of the game. Recipes are knowledge you acquire, ingredients come from markets, your own greenhouses or the water, and equipment is capital spending. A venue that only buys from the market has the simplest supply line and the thinnest margin; a venue that grows and catches its own stock has the opposite.

Clientele is a choice, not a number

The same post says some dishes are “decidedly more exclusive” and aimed at refined palates, and that it is up to you to decide “what kind of clientele you want to satisfy”. That is as close to a strategy statement as the studio has given: the menu you choose defines the customers you attract, not just the money you make.

In practice that means a cheap, broad menu and an expensive, narrow one are two different businesses rather than two difficulty settings, and the best choice probably depends on which district you are in — neighborhood-based pricing and supply and demand are both mentioned in earlier material.

What is still unannounced

  • How menu pricing works: manual per dish, or a suggested price you adjust.
  • Whether staff can be hired, and whether wages become a running cost.
  • How many venues you can own before the management load becomes a problem.
  • Whether a failing business can be sold or must be closed at a loss.
